"Con Panis" Companion at Arms

This post is shared not only with the Brothers and Sisters of the Inner Circle, but also with all members of Tribe 13 who walk the Warrior Path.
In these days, when many paths have lost their depth and meaning, Tribe 13 stands as something different. It is not an idea, not a trend, and not a symbolic identity to wear. Tribe 13 is a real path. A path of the Warrior Protector.
It is a path that demands both strength and transformation, where the outer and the inner are forged together into one. Here, the Sword and the Cross are not separated. They are united. The Sword represents action, discipline, and the ability to stand, fight, and protect. This are the Combat skills. The Cross represents sacrifice, faith, and the inner transformation that gives purpose and direction to that strength.
This is not only about combat skills, and it is not only about spiritual growth. It is the integration of both. The ability to act in the world with clarity and courage, while continuously transforming within. To become not only stronger, but more conscious. Not only capable, but responsible.
Tribe 13 is a path for those who understand that true power is not just the ability to fight, but the ability to protect, to serve, and to transform themselves in the process.
Tribe 13 as you already know is formed from the Outer Circle and Inner Circle.
Within the Inner Circle, there are different degrees, each marking a stage of transformation, responsibility, and understanding. These degrees are not titles or ranks in the ordinary sense. They are steps of inner and outer evolution, each carrying a deeper commitment. The first of these is the degree of Companion at Arms, the foundation upon which the path of the Warrior Protector begins.
When we first hear the word Companion, we tend to think of something simple, someone we spend time with, someone we walk beside, someone we call a friend. Yet this understanding remains on the surface and does not reach the depth of what is truly meant within the Inner Circle of Tribe 13. The word Companion comes from the Latin con panis, which means with bread. Bread is that which sustains life, that which keeps a man alive when all else fails. It is not a luxury but survival itself, and because of this, it touches something fundamental within us.
It goes against our nature to give up our bread. Our instinct is to protect it, to keep it, to ensure our own survival. Yet to be a true Companion is to rise above that instinct. It is to share your bread when it is scarce and to give it when another would perish without it. To call someone Companion is not simply to call them a friend, it is to recognize a sacred bond, a silent vow that says I will let you live, even if it costs me my own survival. This is the first threshold, the first inner confrontation, the first step away from the isolated self and toward something greater.
Within the Inner Circle, however, this is only the beginning. We speak of the Companion at Arms, and here the meaning deepens and the weight of the path becomes real. Con panis reminds us that we share our bread, but at arms calls us to take up the sword. To be a Companion at Arms is to stand not only as one who nourishes life but as one who defends it. You are no longer only a giver, you become a protector. You do not only sustain your Tribe and the love ones, you stand between them and danger, between them and chaos, ready to act when it matters.
In this union, you feed with one hand and defend with the other. This is where mercy and strength meet, where compassion and discipline are no longer separate, and where the warrior begins to take form within the individual. From an esoteric and symbolic perspective, this degree demands reflection. Bread is not only physical, it represents your energy, your time, your attention, your spirit. The question becomes what is your bread, what do you cling to for your own survival, and are you truly willing to give it.
The sword is also not merely steel. It is your will, your discipline, your capacity to act, to defend truth, and to uphold what is sacred. The deeper question then arises, what do you truly protect, and are you strong enough to stand firm when you are tested. The degree of Companion at Arms is not a title to be worn, it is a mirror that reveals both your current state and your potential. It confronts you with what you are and what you must become.
The degrees within the Inner Circle are not ornamental. They are not names chosen for appearance or tradition alone. Each degree holds symbolic meaning and contains within it knowledge meant to transform. They are steps in the forging of the individual into something greater, into a better human being, a stronger protector, a conscious warrior capable of both inner discipline and outer action.
The Inner Circle Brothers and Sisters who will be present at the next Tribe 13 Boot Camp will receive their initiation into this first degree, Companion at Arms. This initiation is not symbolic in name alone. It is rooted in a chivalric Christian ritual tradition, marking the passage from an adept who seeks into an initiate who walks the path of the Warrior Protector. The setting itself reflects this transformation, as it will take place in an old and humble church, a place where silence, history, and presence create the space for something real to occur.
In the chivalric traditions, initiation was always preceded by a vigil, a moment of stillness and confrontation with the self. The Arms Vigil was not a formality but a necessity, a time in which the individual stood alone with a single question that could not be avoided. Am I ready to carry the sword. This question remains alive within Tribe 13, not as a reenactment of the past but as a living reality adapted to our time.
Tribe 13 stands as something different in these days. It is not symbolic play or empty ritual. It is a real path of the Warrior Protector, one that unites the Sword and the Cross. The Sword represents action, strength, combat, and the willingness to face darkness. The Cross represents sacrifice, faith, inner transformation, and the death of the lesser self. To walk this path is to accept both fully, to act in the world while transforming within, to protect others while confronting and mastering oneself.
This is why this step must not be taken lightly. It requires reflection, meditation, and preparation. Each Brother and Sister must look within and ask if they are ready not only to share their bread but also to defend those with whom they share it. Because once this path is entered, it changes the individual. It is no longer about being a companion in the ordinary sense.
It is about becoming a Companion at Arms, and from that moment forward, living in accordance with what that truly means.
Stay safe all and may God protect you and your families!
